Getting to know you

This is something I wanted to try care of Keely at Mann Land. She posted it last week. This kind of thing is great for those I'm-too-busy-to-blog days. You'd think that as a stay-at-home-mum I wouldn't have many of those. You'd be completely and woefully wrong.

1. Do you have a fetish?
Fetish? Nah.
2. Do you sing in the shower?
Always. We have a radio in the shower and I have to sing along. It's mandatory.
3. Who was your first crush?
My orthodontist Samuel Israelovitch. He had thick brown hair and classes to match. He showed interest in me that I thought was more than my comically horrible bite and headgear adjustment.
4. What do you think is the best manly trait a guy could have?
Being able to drive a motorcycle or fly a plane. How hot is that? Not so co-incidentally, Scott can do both.
5. Do you sleep naked?
HELL, to the no. If I could shower with a bathing suit on, I would.
6. What do you do when (you think) no one is looking?
Do I have to admit to the entire world that I check for boogers? No? Whew.
7. What's the first thing you do when you go online?
Lately I've been playing an infernal trivia game but usually I just check my emails then see if my blog came out okay.
8. Summer is.....?
The best time of the year, hands down. Canada Day, my birthday, dragonboating, painted toenails, fresh fruit, tank tops, outdoor pools... need I go on?

And that, ladies and gentlemen is all about me. To be honest, after 4 years of blogging, there are no real revelations here but I'm my own favourite subject so please indulge me (as you so often do).

Postgame Reaction to 2-0 Win Over Crew

MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER QUOTESHEET
SATURDAY, MAY 20, 2010 – LA GALAXY 2, COLUMBUS CREW 0

LOS ANGELES HEAD COACH BRUCE ARENA
On his team’s victory:
“Good win. They obviously pressed the game pretty hard at us in the second half. I think the exhibition we played Sunday killed us with having to be in Dallas on Thursday and playing Sunday. Obviously, we’re going to see more of that in the summer as we move on to [CONCACAF] Champions League games. It was a challenge for us physically with a thin roster and everything else, but we’re going to take the win. We spilt two real good goals tonight.”

On the physical nature of the match:
“You take whatever the game gives you and we played through a lot of issues at the end. They’re a team that’s about challenging you and to conceive 15 corners is very good and to not give up a goal is very good. They’re really physical and the fact that they had four fouls for the night is very remarkable to me… the physicality that Columbus brings is something that’s really challenging and in seconds of the game tonight they overpowered us.”

On the Western Conference vs. Eastern Conference:
“I think there are a lot of games left to play. Right now the West has a little bit of an edge, but at the end of the day, it tends to balance out. The teams in the West have gotten off to a good start, but so has Columbus. Columbus has been great this year. We’ll see as things get closer to September and we’ll see which teams are really good and which conference is better.”

On his team’s play on offense:
“Our passing was poor. We couldn’t hold the ball and we didn’t do a good job in that regard. We had to defend so much our passing wasn’t good. We knew we weren’t going to win a lot of headers and that’s were Columbus has dominated. We did a good job with our second goals tonight.”

On the Crew’s advantage statistically:
“When you have an advantage on the road and the other team doesn’t score you have a chance to win. At the end of the day that’s what it’s about. We came here to win. The only thing we were worried about was the score. We didn’t concern ourselves a whole lot at the end of the game with who had the most corner kicks or shots or fouls or all that other stuff… Our roster is a little weakened tonight; our roster is not as strong as it will be during the year. I’m not really going to scratch my head on those statistics. I’ll take the three points and I’m out of town. I’m not going to worry about all that other stuff.”

LOS ANGELES FORWARD TRISTAN BOWEN
His overall thoughts on the match:
“I thought the team was great. We worked hard for 90 minutes, which is becoming a common theme for us, and we played great road football. We sat back and we waited for our opportunities and I think the team did well.”

On scoring his first career MLS goal:
“It was good. Bruce [Arena] said to go out there and work for 90 minutes and my chances would come and whenever it comes, to actually take the opportunities, so I’m really excited about it. It’s a great step forward and it was obviously a good boost to our team and gave us some more cushion to sit on the lead.”

LOS ANGELES DEFENDER GREGG BERHALTER
On Los Angeles’ mentality in the match:
“It’s one of our best wins all year. They came out with a lot of energy and our mentality was to just absorb what they were giving us and hopefully retaliate, and we did that. Give them credit, they played with an incredible work rate and they really took the game to us.”

On his team’s defensive effort:
“It was a game that we had to dig deep tonight. There were a lot of set pieces to defend. They have probably one of the biggest teams in the league and they just kept throwing balls, throwing men forward and it was a good battle. I think as a team, collectively, we played well defensively.”

LOS ANGELES MIDFIELDER MICHAEL STEPHENS
His overall thoughts on the match:
“It was a huge win, coming here on the road against a team that’s obviously good, it shows in their record; they’re undefeated, we’re undefeated. It’s a huge result on the road and we’ve very pleased with that.”

COLUMBUS HEAD COACH ROBERT WARZYCHA
On the Crew’s advantage statistically:
“We can win the game on a stat sheet, but obviously you have to finish your chances. We played very well today and created chances, but like I’ve said in previous games, you have to defend well. They were organized and you can’t break the defense. They had luck on their side. I think we had enough chances to win the game and we created two in the second half. We were 15 to zero in corner kicks against the best team in MLS so we have to be proud.”

On numerous corner kick opportunities:
“When you have 15 corners sometimes the luck is not on your side. We had a handle on probably 50 percent of the corners and we created traffic in front of [Donovan] Ricketts, but the ball didn’t get inside the net.”

On the play of Steven Lenhart:
“The chance that he had in the first half was five yards in front of the goal. He should finish that one, maybe go with his head, but as a forward you have to finish that one. In the second half we had some momentum and I put Jason Garey in for Steven and thought maybe he’d be lucky today.”

On the Crew’s possession tonight:
“We played at home and everybody felt good. The momentum of the ball was good and there weren’t too many missed passes. When we lost the ball we were able to recover it quickly. We were able to play with high tempo and make them tired and I think that worked. They are a good possessing team and we were trying to make sure they were not staying on top of the ball as much as they wished to.”

COLUMBUS DEFENDER ANDY IRO
His overall thoughts on the match:
“You can look at it one of two ways. You can be really disappointed and just kind of sit back and feel sorry for yourself, or you can look at the positives and look at how we played, which was one of our best performances of the season. You’ve also got to look at the positives in that we’ve got a game on Wednesday and we’ve got a game on Saturday. We’re good on the road, we won important games last week on the road. So you know what, it happens; throughout the course of a season, it happens.”

COLUMBUS DEFENDER JED ZAYNER
His overall thoughts on the match:
“Sometimes luck’s got to be on your side and that’s just how the cookie crumbles sometimes. It’s the first game that we’ve pretty much dominated a game full out, with shots, attacking, everything and it’s a bummer that the result didn’t happen.”

On the Galaxy’s opening goal:
“I don’t think it took the wind out of our sails, I just think that was there game plan. We knew that if they got a goal, it was going to be great for them and tougher on us, so it’s a bummer that we let in that goal because then they didn’t have to attack as much.”

This Week Inside the Galaxy: 2010 - Episode 10

This Week Inside the Galaxy, come along as we go behind the scenes with Landon Donovan as he returns to his hometown of Redlands, Calif. for the taping of ESPN's Homecoming (which debuts on June 10) and look ahead to this weekend's battle of the final unbeatens in Columbus.

LA Prepared for Matchup of Unbeatens

On Friday, the Galaxy completed their preparations for tomorrow’s match against the Columbus Crew with a training session at Obetz Training Center. The coaching staff took the players through a long warm up and stretch to make sure that everyone was properly loose following a day of travel on Thursday.

Next, the player went through series of passing drills to further loosen up and work on their sharpness at the same time. It was then on to positional work on both the defensive and offensive sides followed by a run through of the set plays.

To wrap things up the players worked on their own for the last ten minutes. Despite the heat and humidity it was a good training session for the team.

Here are a few comments from head coach Bruce Arena, who looks ahead to the matchup including a comparison between the Crew's Robin Fraser-Chad Marshall combo from about five years ago to the Gregg Berhalter-Omar Gonzalez combo with the Galaxy. We also caught up with Clint Mathis, Mike Magee and AJ DeLaGarza to get their thoughts on tomorrow’s matchup of unbeatens.

Below are a few more photos from today’s training session.

Enjoy!

My friend Adriana likes this post:

I was so touched that she called it out and said it was super funny that I thought I'd post it again. It's strange... the times I dash something off like this post, I'm shocked if it gets a good reaction. Other times I work on posts for hours, sometimes days thinking it's hilarious and everyone will love it and I get crickets. What's the deal with that? Anyway, enjoy...

Happy Weekend!

Quiet Time

It's been a day of many flights today as the first team players flew to Columbus for Saturday's game against the Crew and the Academy players flew to Sarasota, Fla. for the Development Academy Spring Showcase.

In fact with Chivas USA playing at D.C. United this weekend and the National Team in Philadelphia (after a brief stopover at the White House), the halls of The Home Depot Center seem pretty quiet for the first time in a long time.

We'll have news from the Galaxy's training session tomorrow and be sure to make your way over to The Olde Ship in Santa Ana for the club's official viewing party for the game.

But in the meantime, be sure to head over to lagalaxy.com for all the latest news from the club, including Larry Morgan's midweek notebook, a look at David Beckham visiting U.S. troops in Afghanistan and a profile of one of the club's longest tenured employees, equipment manager Raul Vargas.

Additionally, Craig Merz at MLSsoccer.com lists the 10 best games in the history of Crew Stadium. Here's to hoping that Saturday's game between the Galaxy and Crew makes its way onto the next installment of that list thanks to another LA victory.

Finally, head over to USAtoday.com to read Kelly Whiteside's profile of Landon Donovan as well as a Q&A with the Galaxy captain.

So I joined a bunch of mummy blog websites...

but I feel like a fraud. When I look at all the blogs I've written over the years, I'd say that 25% of them are about my family and a full 75% are about me and my bizarrenesses. I don't seem to gush about them very much at all. I've been reading a lot of these mom blogs and the women seem so loving and speak so tenderly about their offspring. They take gorgeous photographs of children bubble blowing in the sunshine, filled with love and beauty and all I can manage is this kind of thing, taken while giggling like an evil elf:

And don't get me started about the angry or mocking posts. About my own children and loving husband, no less. These loving women make me feel awful. Selfish, self involved and kinda mean. But you know what I've learned over my 42 years? I can't change. My family knows me and I think they even love me a little just the way I am. I just hope that when one of those good mums comes over here to read my self-indulgent nonsense, they don't think I'm a complete cow. I'm only half a cow. A calf, really. So nyah.

Facebook's new privacy settings

Facebook privacy
Facebook announced new privacy settings to address some of the negative public backlash they received these last few weeks. Your name, profile picture and gender will remain publicly available but you can set privacy controls for the rest. The new privacy features will be rolled out during the next few weeks.

Video: How to take advantage of Facebook's new privacy settings

They've definitely made it easier for the end-user to change the privacy levels by adding global settings and the fact that you can now opt-out of applications altogether will be good news to those who demand absolute control over their privacy. Just a pity you don't have the option (when applying the setting to disable all applications) to exclude applications you actually want to use. Maybe that will come in future.

Step in right direction

A lot of people will be pleased with the new privacy settings but some privacy advocates will still have a problem with Facebook's general lacklustre approach to Privacy. Instead of thinking it through and respecting the user's privacy from the start, Facebook tend to expose their users by decreasing their privacy and then they simply fix it later, if the public outcry warrants it.

Sharing your personal info with 3rd party applications should be OPT-IN, not opt-out! As long as I have the choice to decide beforehand to share information or not, everything is fine. Just don't share it without my permission.

Getting the Call

The big news today was of course the inclusion of Edson and Landon in Bob Bradley's 23-man World Cup squad. The duo were in Bristol, Conn. today for the official roster unveiling, but we were able to catch up with Edson on the phone before briefly before he boarded the plane to Washington D.C. where he (at the rest of his teammates) will be guests of President Obama and former President Clinton at the White House.

Be sure to head over to lagalaxy.com to read the latest from Larry Morgan about Buddle's inclusion in the U.S. squad.

Galaxy Raw - Week 10

Galaxy Raw is your mid-week fix for all of the sights and sounds from training served up raw and unfiltered. In this edition, we join in as media talks with Bruce Arena, Tristan Bowen, Eddie Lewis and Michael Stephens about Monday's announcement of an international friendly this summer against Inter Milan and the upcoming match against Eastern Conference table toppers the Columbus Crew this Saturday at 4:30pm at Crew Stadium.

Things that bug me about my new banner:

  • I should have plucked my eyebrow
  • You can't really see that eyebrow
  • I have a teeny grey hair that's exactly in the middle of the photograph
  • My eyelashes are longer than my head hair
  • My eyelashes look weird
  • You can see the white switchplate on the wall behind me
  • My eye is rheumy watery
Things I like:
  • The wall colour co-incidentally matches the blog
  • The shot itself is surprisingly good. Considering I took it myself with a PHD (press here, dummy) camera, that is...
Otherwise, I'm still liking it which is saying a lot considering my crippling self doubt. Conversely I have high self esteem often making what goes on in my head a very bizarre mental melange. But that's why you love me, right? Right? Guys? Helloooo?!

So I sent out emails, I put it on Facebook,

and now I'm doing it here. But I promise not to bother anyone with this after today.

As you know, I dragonboat. Once a year I humbly ask for donations for the Ottawa Dragonboat Foundation charities. There are quite a few featured charities including the local children's hospital and animal shelter.

If you feel the spirit, please donate using this link. You can use my name (Karen Knox) or my team (The ORCC Dunrobin Dames). If you donate, I'll give you a shout-out right in this here blog. I'll talk about how we met (if we've met), post a photo (if I have one) and tell an embarrassing story about you. Hm. Now that I think about it, that's not much enticement, is it? But I promise I'll be nice.

So what do you say? Will you help a sister out?

Look Back at 1-0 Win Over Boca Juniors

Josh Saunders made the saves, Tristan Bowen scored the goal and the entire Galaxy team was able to celebrate a 1-0 win over Boca Juniors on Sunday evening.

Galaxy to Host Champions League Winners Inter Milan on August 7

The LA Galaxy announced today that the club will host newly crowned European champions Inter Milan in an international friendly at The Home Depot Center on Saturday, August 7. This is the second consecutive season in which the Galaxy will host the reigning UEFA Champions League winners. In August 2009, the club fell 2-1 to FC Barcelona in front of 93,137 fans at the Rose Bowl.

The match against the Nerazzuri (the black and blues) will kick-off at 7:30 p.m. and is included in all Galaxy full season ticket plans as Bonus Game C. A special ticket pre-sale for all full season ticket holders is underway now, with a ticket package pre-sale for all fans beginning this Thursday, May 27 at 10 a.m. Tickets will go on sale to the general public at a future date, with tickets starting at just $50.

“We have always said that it is our ambition to give our fans exciting games that further enhance the experience of being an LA Galaxy fan and bringing the champions of Europe to The Home Depot Center certainly fits that vision,” Galaxy President of Business Operations Tom Payne said. “This is the second consecutive season in which we have brought the Champions League winners to Southern California and just like last year, we are anticipating another unbelievable evening for our team and our fans.”

Inter, who have won each of the last five Serie A titles, are one of the world’s most popular and accomplished clubs. They are coming off the most successful season in club history, capturing both the Serie A and Coppa Italia championships. On Saturday, they completed the treble, becoming just the sixth team in European history to accomplish the feat, by defeating Bayern Munich 2-0 at the UEFA Champions League Final in Madrid.

Inter Milan will travel to Los Angeles with their complete squad of stars, which currently includes many World Cup-bound superstars such as Argentina’s Diego Milito, who scored both Inter goals in Saturday’s Champions League Final, and Walter Samuel, Brazil’s Julio Cesar, Lucio and Maicon, Cameroon’s Samuel Eto’o, Ghana’s Sulley Muntari, Holland’s Wesley Sneijder, David Suazo of Honduras and Serbia’s Dejan Stankovic. They also feature 2006 FIFA World Cup winner Marco Materazzi, former Italian international goalkeeper Fracesco Toldo, Argentina internationals Esteban Cambiasso and Javier Zanetti, the current Inter captain, as well as a host of additional international stars.

The match against Inter will be the Galaxy’s third international friendly played The Home Depot Center this year. They played to a 0-0 draw with CD Aguila of El Salvador on March 21 and defeated Boca Juniors of Argentina 1-0 on Sunday evening. LA also defeated Puntarenas FC of Costa Rica 1-0 at Titan Stadium in Fullerton, Calif. on March 10.

Victoria Day!

There's nothing like a long weekend to re-invigorate you and make you feel wonderful. Today we celebrate Queen Victoria or something. Mostly people drink, picnic, drink, open their cottages, drink and generally spend time outside drinking. Here in Canada, it's the kickoff weekend for summer. So have a terrific holiday Monday and see you tomorrow!

Home (Michael Buble)

Another summer day
has come and gone away
In Paris or Rome...
but I wanna go home
...uhm Home
may be surrounded by
a million people I
still feel all alone
just wanna go home
I miss you, you know

And I've been keeping all the letters
that I wrote to you,
Each one a line or two
I'm fine baby, how are you?
I would send them but I know that it's just not enough
My words were cold and flat
And you deserve more than that

Another aeroplane, another sunny place,
I'm lucky I know
but I wanna go home
I got to go home

Let me go home

I'm just too far from where you are
I wanna come home

And I feel just like I'm living
someone else's life
It's like I just stepped outside
when everything was going right
And I know just why you could not come along with me
This was not your dream
but you always believed in me...

Another winter day
Has come and gone away
in either Paris or Rome
and I wanna go home
Let me go home

And I'm surrounded by
A million people I
still feel alone
Let me go home
I miss you , you know

Let me go home
I've had my run
baby I'm done
I gotta go home

Let me go home
it'll all be alright
I'll be home tonight
I'm coming back home"

50 Lessons Learned From Movies

I wast just stumbling, and I found this article. True and hilarious.

If you’ve watched a lot of movies like I have, you’ll find these pretty hilarious. Here are 50 lessons learned from movies:

1. If being chased through town, you can usually take cover in a passing St Patrick’s Day parade – at any time of the year.

2. All beds have special L-shaped top sheets that reach up to armpit level on a woman but only waist level on the man lying beside her.

3. All grocery shopping bags contain at least one stick of French bread.

4. Once applied, lipstick will never rub off – even while scuba diving.

5. The ventilation system of any building is a perfect hiding place. No one will ever think of looking for you in there and you can travel to any other part of the building without difficulty.

6. Should you wish to pass yourself off as a German officer, it will not be necessary to speak the language. A German accent will do.

7. The Eiffel Tower can be seen from any window of any building in Paris.

8. A man will show no pain while taking the most ferocious beating but will wince when a woman tries to clean his wounds.

9. When paying for a taxi, never look at your wallet as you take out a note – just grab one at random and hand it over. It will always be the exact fare.

10. If you lose a hand, it will cause the stump of your arm to grow by 15cm.

11. Mothers routinely cook eggs, bacon and waffles for their family every morning, even though the husband and children never have time to eat them.

12. Cars and trucks that crash will almost always burst into flames.

13. A single match will be sufficient to light up a room the size of a football stadium.

14. Medieval peasants had perfect teeth.

15. All single women have a cat.

16. Any person waking from a nightmare will sit bolt upright and pant.

17. One man shooting at 20 men has a better chance of killing them all than 20 men firing at one.

18. Creepy music coming from a graveyard should always be closely investigated.

19. Most people keep a scrapbook of newspaper cuttings – especially if any of their family or friends has died in a strange boating accident.

20. It does not matter if you are heavily outnumbered in a fight involved martial arts – your enemies will wait patiently to attack you one by one by dancing around in a threatening manner until you have knocked out their predecessor.

21. During a very emotional confrontation, instead of facing the person you are speaking to, it is customary to stand behind them and talk to their back.

22. When you turn out the light to go to bed, everything in your room will still be clearly visible, just slightly bluish.

23. Dogs always know who’s bad and will naturally bark at them.

24. When they are alone, all foreigners prefer to speak English to each other.

25. Rather than wasting bullets, megalomaniacs prefer to kill their arch-enemies using complicated machinery involving fuses, pulley systems, deadly gases, lasers and man eating sharks that will allow their captives at least 20 minutes to escape.

26. Having a job of any kind will make all fathers forget their son’s eighth birthday.

27. All bombs are fitted with electronic timing devices with large red readouts so you know exactly when they’re going to go off.

28. It is always possible to park directly outside the building you are visiting.

29. A detective can only solve a case once he has been suspended from duty.

30. If you decide to start dancing in the street, everyone you bump into will know all the steps.

31. If you decide to hack into the CIA database, all you need is a laptop and an internt connection. it will usually take about 10 seconds to get into the system and you will usually be undetected.

32. No matter how dirty the water is, it is still possible for you to jump in and open your eyes underwater. You’ll be able to see everything clearly and your eyes wont hurt.

33. In every bar you go into, the bartender will always know how to make any and every long named drink of your choice.

34. When walking in a quiet and dark area, its only fair to ask if someone is there.

35. It’s always possible to outrun a explosion/fireball by running straight towards the camera, sometimes in slow motion.

36. The prologue and/or epilogue, when applicable, is always narrated by a soothing calm monotone voiced individual, preferably Morgan Freeman.

37. Never be afraid to jump off of a building into an open dumpster, as the contents will most likely always be clean, fluffy garbage bags.

38. Most police officers HATE partners. If they do have a partner that they trust and like, he/she will die.

39. The last bad guy in a shootout is too tough to die fast like everyone else. He must pretend to give up or be dead, and suddenly try to shoot one of the good guys. Then and only then can he die quickly.

40. Cars can screech tires and burn rubber even if they’re on gravel or sand.

41. Everybody’s phone number starts with 555.

42. Monsters always make noise before attacking.

43. If you have face stubble….you have a dark mysterious past.

44. Ancient Romans had English accents.

45. Nobody has morning breath in the movies…the first thing a couple does is kiss each other when they wake up.

46. All helocopter crashes occur on the other side of the mountain.

47. Computers in sci-fi films have either male or female voices that speak in a calm, reassuring tone even in the most extreme situations.

48. In high speed chases, no car ever runs out of gas.

49. Funerals usually happen when it rains. The hardest, bravest, coolest person is usually the one without an umbrella or hat and usually stands alone either to the side or behind everyone.

50. If your female who has never been on a date or even been hit on, don’t worry. All it takes is some contacts, new hair styles, and new clothes to make you the baddest bitch in the town.

This Week Inside the Galaxy: 2010-Episode 9

In this week's episode of This Week Inside the Galaxy, look back as the club remains unbeaten with a 1-0 win at FC Dallas, cactch up with Bruce ahead of his trip to Madrid for the Champions League Final and look ahead to Sunday's friendly with Boca Juniors.

Sports Day!

Finally, Sports Day came. I was very nervous. I'm not sure whether I'm fast enough to participate in the 100m run. I don't wanna be the last to cross the finish line -_-. So I talked to Weishan, and she talked to Mr Chong and Mr Beng. And they all said, "Just try your best, have fun." Hmmm tetep aja stress ini -_-

So, at last, I did it. And I wasn't 1st, or 2nd, or 3rd. But I wasn't last either. I think I was 5th or 6th or 7th (out of 11). Well, not bad. But still, it would've been better if I got a medal.

The day went on, and.... 3E2 didn't win any medals. HAHA. Well never mind, at least we had fun. So, this was my first Sports Day experience. Not bad, although it could've been more fun. Well, actually, it was... A little bit boring. I even read a book there -_-, but never mind. Haha

So, you like what I did up there?

I wanted to submit my blog to a "mommy blog" group to get more readers (not that I don't love you all) and they required me to send a "badge". My reaction? "A what-now?" Turns out it's a little photo of the blog that people can add to their blogs to link 'em. Unfortunately my blog didn't have a photo header so I had to make one for a good snapshot of my front page.

So after an afternoon of scouring the internet for badge-making instructions for dummies, swearing at my laptop which incidentally doesn't have a "make a badge" button (get on it, Jobs), and taking photographs of my every body part in various positions (clean, people... geez), I finally settled on the above. I'm no photographer but I think it really looks sharp. And a little spooky. Just the look I was going for. Okay, not really, I was just fed up with effing around. So, opinions? Questions? Comments?

Postgame Reaction to 1-0 Win at Dallas

LA Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena:

Good win for sure, not the greatest game. I think the heat first time issue for both teams was a little bit overwhelming. I think guys are just shot – we certainly were. We had three guys in our line up who haven’t played much in the past couple of months and they hit the wall. It was obviously a struggle for the last 15 minutes of the game. Plus it’s a good work out.

On having players missing for national team camp:

We’ve done that before. Certainly, we would prefer to have them here. You know you have got to get on with it. We had a lot of reasons or excuses this year, the guys will hang in there and get on with it. They work hard, so I’m real pleased with our efforts. Certainly it wasn’t our best performance, but given the circumstances I’m pleased with the result.

LA Galaxy goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts

On winning streak:

It’s good to have an unbeaten streak. It’s all about the next game. Coming off an injury and being precautionary affected my play today. The team was playing well and I felt good about it. Anything I can do to help I try to do, and I’m happy with a win in this game.

LA Galaxy forward Mike Magee:

We got three points, but it wasn’t pretty. We handled the game well, got a shutout and played well. It’s huge. There was a lot of pressure on this game. I think a lot of people are watching and thinking we’re going to stumble and miss the guys. We do miss the guys on national teams and injuries, but we’re going to step up.

On the goal:

I was onside; the goal counted. You know obviously the refs make mistakes but obviously it was taken and they counted it so it was onside.

Thank goodness for Facebook

I got a notice from Facebook that my wedding anniversary is Sunday. After some extensive research and a few interviews, it turns out that Facebook is indeed correct. My husband and I will have been married for 17 years.

Personally I think it's more important to celebrate the day we met. I mean, nothing that came after would have happened if not for that fateful wonderful day. Besides, we've only been married 17 years. I'd rather people know that we've been together for 22 years. Sounds far more oppressive. I mean impressive. What's that the comedians say? If our marriage were a murder prison sentence, we'd be on parole by now. Well that's just mean. I prefer the less harsh... if our marriage was our kid we'd be driving him to University and making his bedroom into a home gym. Potatoes, potahtoes.

But you know the most telling thing that shows that we've been happily living together for so long? We just had a complete conversation in the bathroom while he was brushing his teeth. I mean, he was scrubbing his molars and "ahh-ah-wahha"-ing. He sounded like Chewbacca and I understood every word just like Han Solo. Now that's real love.

Kebengalannya does not necessarily make people turn a blind eye on the talent he had. In 2000 he shared the crown Player of the Century along with Pele's FIFA, having previously occupied the top spot in online poll on the FIFA Player of the 20th century. Although "Hand of God goal" of his cause a lot of controversy, who can forget his goals fired from a distance of 60 meters against England

Besides known for as a follower of Total Football number one, he is a player who is very calm facing difficult times.

Michel Platini (Prancis)

The world knew him as one of the best free kick specialists in history, as well as a reliable pitcher. In their home country, no doubt, he is the best midfielder France. Terjangnya in gridiron football are able to make Zidane look even smaller. And that's what Zidane said about the adored stars, "When I was little, I always choose to play as Platini with my friends."

In the eyes of Pele, Zico was a player who could be aligned with him. No wonder if he was nicknamed the "White Pele". Although blessed with extraordinary talent and is often recognized as the world's best players in the early '80s, he never won the World Cup. Galaxy to Face Puerto Rico Islanders In CCL

The LA Galaxy will play the Puerto Rico Islanders in the Preliminary Round of the 2010-2011 CONCACAF Champions League when the third edition of the tournament begins in July. The Galaxy will host the first leg of their Preliminary Round match against the Islanders when the tournament begin July 27-29 and then travel to Puerto Rico a week later for the second leg. The winners will advance to the Group Stage, which is set for August 17-19.

"Puerto Rico is a team with proven success in the USSF Division-2 Pro League and we are looking forward to opening our Champions League campaign against them,” LA Galaxy General Manager and Head Coach Bruce Arena said. “They have had success in this tournament in the past and have an experienced manager in Colin Clarke, so they will present a difficult challenge for us."

The draw conducted Wednesday by deputy general secretaries Ted Howard and Italo Zanzi at the confederation’s New York headquarters set the Preliminary Round pairings and matchups for the Group Stage.

Other Preliminary Round matches will have two-time runner-up Cruz Azul of Mexico against Panama’s San Francisco, the Mexican Clausura runner-up -- either Santos or Toluca -- facing San Juan Jabloteh of Trinidad, Costa Rica’s Brujas facing Joe Public of Trinidad, the Canadian champion – either Toronto FC or the Vancouver Whitecaps – against Motagua of Honduras, and Xelaju of Guatemala against a Central America club.

The Seattle Sounders will face an as yet-to-be determined Central American side in the Preliminary Round, while Marathon – a quarterfinalist this past season – will take on Tauro FC of Panama.

Two berths originally were allocated to El Salvador, but FIFA has suspended the country due to governmental interference in the federation’s affairs. The government has until June 8 to comply with FIFA’s non-intervention requirements or its teams will be barred from international competition, including the Champions League – and its berths will be reassigned.

The winner of the Galaxy-Islanders series will be placed in Group D, which will include the Mexican Clausura champ, either Santos or Toluca, Olimpia of Honduras and the Central America 11-Xelaju winner

I predict this blog is going to make you sleepy...

Fourteen years ago I visited a seer at a psychic fair. She predicted a few things dead on. She somehow knew I couldn't swim and told me to take lessons or I'd regret it. I did (what could it hurt, right?) and a few months later I found myself snorkelling in Jamaica, shocked at how beautiful the ocean was and delighted that I could swim to see it.

She predicted I'd meet an old friend from school. I didn't think that one was possible since I moved away from my hometown but a few weeks later a ran into an old girlfriend from college I hadn't seen in years. She and I are still friends today and even have sons the same age.

The psychic told me I was pregnant (I was only a month gone at the time so I wasn't showing). She said she saw me walking out of the hospital holding a blue blanket. She also said I'd have 4 kids: a boy, a girl, a boy and another boy with a large gap between the last 2. They all can't be winners, right?

But hold on...

I had Elliott then Audrey then Henry. After Henry, Scott got the Big V so no fourth. But now, 10 years after Henry was born, I have an 8 month old baby in the house. A baby boy. Hm.

Don't tell me that all psychics are do-rag wearing, vaguely eastern European accented thieves. There's got to be a little something to this kooky stuff, right?

kxx

More Mid Year Exam results!

Today, I finally found out my Math Mid Year Exam results:

  • E. Maths Paper 1: 61 out of 80! Yeeay :D
  • E. Maths Paper 2: 47 out of 80! Quite good :)
  • A. Maths: 18 out of 80. Very very bad. But, well, I'm not used to it yet..
So that's it. And I just found out today that we're not supposed to leave our books in class. Ahhh. Then does that mean I have to bring all those heavy books home? No please :( Well, a few is ok, but the whole bunch of it.. Wow that's real heavy!

Hmm, oh yeah. I'm getting quite nervous for the PHSS Carnival and Sports day.. It's on Friday. And I'm going to run the 100m girls' run. I hope I'm fast enough. I hope I'll be able to start quickly, and not waste time, and win 1st prize. Aamiin...

Oh yeah, there was an assembly at school today, and there was this group that came, I can't remember the name, and I didn't really manage to hear their name. But what I wanted to emphasize is.. That they used Indonesian instruments in their performance. I mean, wow. That's cool. Indonesian instruments! And... This proves to us that even the non-Indonesians are using our traditional instruments, so why aren't we? We're Indonesians, it's our job to preserve the Indonesian music instruments.

So, I guess that's all I'd like to say now. Thank you for reading :)

Back in Training

The Galaxy went through a complete training session under cold and grey skies this afternoon at The Home Depot Center. Despite a growing injury list that has no fewer than eight players listed, the team went through an intense and strenuous training as they continued their preparation for Thursday's game against FC Dallas.

Eddie Lewis (above) and A.J. DeLaGarza (below) were each back out on the field as they continue to come back from their injuries. Lewis, who has been out since suffering a foot contusion early in the first half of the season opener against New England, returned to training last week while DeLaGarza on the field for the first time since missing the last two games because of back spasms.

The team played a series of small-sided games during the day's session, making sure that every player on the field got plenty of touches in various positions throughout the day. With Landon and Edson now in New Jersey with the National Team, there are at least two open spots in Bruce Arena's starting lineup and the Galaxy coach has plenty of options to chose from. Arena has already started 21 of the 25 players on the club's roster (including the injured David Beckham) at least once this season, with only Beckham, the on loan Yohance Marshall (more about him later), Tristan Bowen and Clint Mathis not making their way into the starting lineup yet this year.

That is the very definition of depth, something that Arena spoke to Jackie Pickering about for Galaxy Live, which will air at 8:30 p.m. prior to the game on Thursday night.

But that depth will be tested over the coming weeks as the Galaxy play four of their next five games on the road. LA is 3-0-1 away from The Home Depot Center this season and have yet to allow a goal, a mark that they would like to keep intact as they take on a team that put up six the last time these two sides met in September 2009.

Josh Saunders could be given the task of doing just that after he extended his streak without allowing a goal in the regular season or postseason to 397 minutes with his clean sheet against Toronto FC on Saturday. If Saunders gets the start on Thursday and plays 58 minutes without allowing a goal, he will become the 10th goalkeeper in league history to play 400 or more straight minutes in the regular season without allowing a goal. Saunders last allowed a goal in MLS competition on April 4, 2009 in a 3-2 loss to the Colorado Rapids.

Finally, we told you that we would have more for you about second year defender Yohance Marshall, he will join the Galaxy at their team hotel ahead of the game against FC Dallas on Thursday. Marshall has appeared in five games so far this season with the Austin Aztex who currently sit at the top of the USSF Division 2 standings with a 4-1-1 record for league-best 13 points. He will be in action for the Aztex at home on Wednesday night against Tampa Bay before flying to Dallas on Thursday morning. He will then accompany the team back to Los Angeles for training and Sunday's game against Boca Juniors before returning to Austin on Monday.
