• The loss ended a four game unbeaten streak for the Galaxy against New England dating back to July 2008. LA was 3-0-1 in those four games.
• Bruce Arena made two changes to the team that beat Seattle at The Home Depot Center on July 4, bringing Alex Cazumba and Leonardo back into the team. They replaced Landon Donovan, who was rested and remained in Los Angeles, and Omar Gonzalez, who was suspended for yellow card accumulation.
• This was the first game that Gonzalez had missed in his MLS career after playing all 30 regular season games last season and the first 15 games of the 2010 campaign.
• With Alex Cazumba and Leonardo back in the starting lineup, this is the first game since April 1 that all three of the Galaxy’s offseason Brazilian acquisitions have started in the same game.
• The two goals allowed by the Galaxy were the most that they have allowed in a league game this season. LA had allowed five goals in their first 15 games of the 2010 season, never allowing more than one.
• Despite the loss, Donovan Ricketts made three saves for the Galaxy and remains the MLS leader in goals against average.
• This was the Galaxy’s first loss to an Eastern Conference team this season. They are now 3-1-3 against the East.
• LA has now been shutout in three consecutive road games dating back to a 2-0 win at Columbus on May 29.
• Tonight’s game ended a string of five games in 15 days, dating back to June 26. LA was 2-2-1 in those five games, defeating AC St. Louis in the Open Cup on June 29 and Seattle in the league on July 4. They also lost 2-0 to Seattle in the Open Cup Quarterfinals on Wednesday and played to a 0-0 draw at Toronto FC on June 26 before tonight’s game.
