They aren't. The entire music business revenues are down 40% since 2001. Sales are down hugely. I can tell you from representing these artists that all the money is down too.

Are you spending as much on music as you did years ago?

Actually, moreso, as I've been picking up more small time bands and getting legal copies of my older stuff pre-iPod ownership.

But honestly, like many have said, most of the new stuff out sucks.

The name-calling is childish, too. In fact, you usually hear it from left-wingers.

Here we go again. Broad generalizations. Go to the responses to blogs and articles on the internet and you'll see this isn't true.

Analysts can just shove it. Complete BS all over the place. So.. according to them, we're going to have OSX Lion, iOS5, iPhone5, new iPods AND iPad 3... ALL IN THE FALL?! Complete bull. Oh, and throw in macbook pro updates for the later part of the fall, as usual. Just think about that for a second.

Now, let me remember, when was the last time they were wrong.. oh wait, that's right, iPad 2. Last I remember, it was, you won't see it till May/June at the earliest. WRONG. And after analysts vs. bloggers report, it seems bloggers are more right than analysts.

Anyways, after the 1st paragraph I wrote, I have no doubt in my mind that this is impossible. Last time Apple tried something like this, if I recall, it was Mobile Me, iPhone 3G + iOS2. It was a mess. Jobs himself said it was a mistake (http://news.cnet.com/8301-1023_3-10006873-93.html) they'll never make again. So, when thinking about everything that is rumored by analysts to be coming out this fall, yeah, don't think so.

Edit: Don't get me started on how much their sales would be and strain on supplies having a huge item (iPhone) not only just going on sale, but going on sale leading into holiday season. That's 2x the demand of just releasing during the summer, and we all know how much of a demand that causes.

And going to the guy who said iPhone 3 brought 3GS, what the heck is that? There is 3G, no 3GS (technology wise). It's only a naming convention apple used. Like when cars use SE or GLS. All the did was add a camera, and maybe something else hardware wise.

Edit 2: ipad 2 entered production 1 month b4 apple announcing, so no freak'n 3 months as I've heard around rumor sites.

Thank you! Finally some sense. Any so called "analyst" would be an idiot to claim that Apple will be releasing that many products all within the fall.
You are a much better analyst than the guy from Avian Securities. Arn should make a post saying, "Macrumors forum analyst drewyboy claims the iPhone 5 will launch right on schedule."

iPhone = bad idea and difficult to implement beyond the USA.

If they are smart, they will make it a GSM/UMTS-phone, which is THE most widely used system there is. Then it would work in just about everywhere. USA is just about the only place using those weird systems for mobile phone, but they do use GSM in USA as well. So why use anything else than GSM?

I'm sorry, Bill, but your logic has one big flaw.

If you decided to live celibately while other heterosexuals are open to have sex in a [monogamous] relationship, that's fine by me but what you're implying is that every homosexual should be celibate, so what's the point of being attracted to the same-sex at all in your logic?

I believe you have to label yourself asexual from now on, since not having or craving sex makes you neither a homosexual nor heterosexual.

rumor has it, yes. We are going to get iphone 4's from wireless D2U, but there will not be many.

However, with the constraints on the inventory right now, I doubt that is possible. It's going to look like if you did not get a pin this time, you will not get an iphone.

My DM told me I might not even get the iphones I ordered myself for various reasons. Radioshack had no idea what they were going to do for the launch the night before.

Best bet is to either go to wally world (wal mart) or get it on apple.com

I have not heard anything about Walmart getting the iPhone4 . I do know I went to my local RS & was asked for my information. The manager said he will call me @ 1:00am Thursday morning to give me a pin#. Gave me an appointment for 8:00am. I told him if no shipment, do not call me!! ;)

I do get a kick out of their 10.1" model being both thinner and lighter than the 9.7" Ipad2 though. That will undoubtedly have the apple apologists out en masse.

if you think 'getting a kick' from these points says anything remotely positive about your character...you'd be wrong.

Has Intel R&D come up with a new, low-power, backlit keyboard? ;)

(Figured I'd throw that out straight off, as it's bound to come up somewhere along the line)

For most people the ipad is more useful than the air anyway imo. Yes i owned an air, the ipad 1, and now the ipad 2 and the air was just a watered down macbook pro more than the ipad is a scaled up ipod touch

If it is all just more bells and whistles I guess it will be time to get the upgrade from CS4 to CS5.

It sure does seem like Apple is abandoning the pro market that for a very long time influenced others to go Mac.

I really hope that's not the case.

Keeping a log of nearby locations I've been around, is by proxy, logging my location. If they keep a record of the towers my phone and iPad have linked to, and the locations of these towers are fixed and known, then Apple is in effect tracking my location in this linking.

I think it was not a bug, nut data waiting to be sent to Apple for profit generating purposes.

You really need to get a dumb phone............oh wait.....the NSA will still be able to log every conversation, text and yes your location..........

Either get rid of your phone or quit being such a whiner

To charge $1800 for a system that only has 512MB is a real disappoitment. 1GB RAM oughta be standard, especially with Leopard being on the horizon.

Unless the Xeon is that expensive (which I can't see how it would be), I don't see that as anything except creating some seperation between the configurations.

can't believe only 8 people voted for 64bit, its the most profound change here.... all others you can achieve with some 3rd party softwares.

Same here. To me it is one of the most significant upgrades of all of them.

While I can't say that I like the idea of private information being recorded without clear consumer knowledge or warning, I have to wonder what exactly is getting 'exploited' here? In two years when you throw your phone out Apple secretly searches your trash, takes it and markets to you based on where you went two years ago? Give me a break.

again so that you might understand it:

The issue is that the data are stored unencrypted on your iPhone. So everyone can steal your phone and find out where you've been in the last year. If you think that is not an issue then your job is not very important and your private life is very boring.;)

It's not that Apple uses this info. It's about the fact that there is a gaping security hole that Apple did not fix.

Another way Apple could do it is just to elongate the Mini's case to make it just as svelte vertically, only slightly wider. Could you take a run at that one Dan==?

    [...]

That's exactly what I was thinking, it would fit in with other home audio/video components--or in my case, replace them. I've played around with it, but I obviously don't have the skills that you do. ;)

    Ok, here goes. (Quick pass)

Eeek. Not so sure I like that.

Hmmm... maybe with just one slot?
    http://img54.imageshack.us/img54/4436/macminidblwideunislotvr9.jpg

A little better. I personally prefer the taller narrower one, though.

Wounded, Apple will go on strike and remove all GPS from future devices now. ;)

Except it doesn't use GPS data. It uses cell towers and wifi.

I remember when I was a kid and I asked my father for a toy and he came with a different one... I was the saddest kid on earth.

I believe that who ever asked for an iPad and got a Motorola would feel the same.

    (Dad, I love you)

    Funny, and true.

By the same token, if I explicitly told my wife I wanted a Xoom, Playbook, Tab 10.1 and she came home with an iPad, I wouldn't be the saddest kid on earth, but I do know that I'd be returning it for something I want.

Of course, I also hate it when she brings me home a cheeseburger when I wanted a hamburger.

The Woodcrest processors have been put through their paces pretty well on the supercomputing lists, and their Achille's heal is the memory subsystem. Current generation AMD Opterons still clearly outscale Woodcrest in real-world memory bandwidth with only two cores. Unless Intel pulls a rabbit out of their hat with their memory architecture issues when the quad core is released, AMDs quad core is going to embarrass them because of the memory bottleneck. And AMD is already starting to work on upgrading their already markedly superior memory architecture.

This is one of the drawbacks of using a server CPU on the desktop. In lights-off Xserve this would not matter as most of the data is already cached in memory.

I think there might be lights out for future MacPro Xeons if AMD where to catch up in the race.
